|Airman - marked on base Reg No 638284A. Comical pilot, from around 1920. Created by John Hassall who was a celebrated illustrator, graphic artist and poster designer. All of his mascots are signed Hassall. He also created Robert the Policeman shown in the Male section.
The facial expressions can be altered by moving his spring loaded head. The body is nickel plated bronze or brass some patanated and with a registration number on the bottom of the base. Shown for sale at £2-2-0 in the 1922 catalogue for the retailer S Smith & Sons Cricklewood London NW2, however the Gamages of London catalogue for the early 1920s also shows this mascot priced at 19/6 and made in Brass with a nickel plated finish, never found with a chrome plated finish.
