1928 The Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto, who left Spain in 1539.  The Chrysler Motor Corp introduced the DeSoto in 1928 and used the likeness of the explorer as the logo for their cars, either as a mascot or badge.  Marked: Ternstedt Mfg. Co. Detroit USA.
