Advertising Mascots:  The Gas Council Mr. Therm.

This is a reproduction of a 1931 mascot known as Mr. Therm, created by the great British illustrator Eric Fraser for the Gas, Light and Coke Company.  The brand character was used by the postwar Gas Council to advertise many of the new gas products coming onto the market.  He was also seen as a mascot on many of their delivery vans.  In 1962 however Colman, Prentice and Varley won the account and made the radical move of pensioning off the bright fluttering form of Mr. Therm, whose cheery face and wide smile characterised much of post war British design up until the 1960s.
