|This is what I believe to be a temple lion. These mythological creatures have been traditionally used in Buddhism as gate keepers and guardians of temples, homes and businesses.  Traditionally believed to ward off harm, spiritual or otherwise and bring luck to the occupants, I can't think of a better idea for a radiator cap. Usually found in pairs male and female. The female clutches a ball under her paw, (this is considered to be the world) and the male holds a baby lion. It is unlucky to split up a pair of Temple Lions, so they are normally seen in pairs.
