This is a bronze copy of a Lalique Trophy known as Côte D'Azur that was especially commissioned by the Compagnie des Wagon-Lits from René Lalique and was used to commemorate the inaugural journey of the Côte d'Azur Pullman Express on the 9th of December 1929. The original R Lalique trophies has the moulded complete commemoration inscription around the base. Côte D'Azur Pullman Express, 9 Decembre 1929 with two moulded logos for the Compagnie des Wagon-Lits to each side of the base. These trophies were presented to the original passengers and dignitary as a memento of the companies achievements. I just wonder if these bronze Côte D'Azur copy's mounted on antique marble could have been supplied with paperwork and boxes and possibly given to members of the company's staff and other general workers who had helped in their way to bring about this memorable occasion. |
