1918 Dashboard Plaque:  St Bartholomew's Hospital.

Motor Mascot of the British Empire on behalf of the St Bartholomew's Hospital Smithfield London E.C.1.  Inscription reads St Bartholomew Guard Prosper and Bring Happiness.  This enamelled Dashboard Plaque was offered to raise funds to help with the many casualties from the Fist World War, who were now returning home.  The hospital was founded in 1123 by Rahere formerly a courtier of Henry 1st.  While he was sick on a pilgrimage to Rome he had a vision of St Bartholomew, one of the twelve apostles, this vision inspired him to found a Priory and Hospital for the sick and poor at Smithfield London.  St Bartholomew's is often shortened to Bart's and is now one of Britain's top teaching hospitals.
