American Factory Mascots

Manufacturer:  Packard Corp. 1899-1958.  1955 Clipper.

Known a Ball On Wing and fitted to the Clippers 1955-56.  The ball was Gold or Chrome plated, the rest of the ornament was always chrome plated.  ID base plate 10493 466446 DJ, Top 10496 466448 DJ Ball 466447.  The ball was bolted to the base plate of the 1955 car and the base plate bolted to the bonnet.  The 1956 cars did not have the base plate, and the ball and three studs were bolted directly to the bonnet.  Measures approx 13 3/4 inches long and approx 3 1/2 inches wide.  The Packard Clipper was such a success, Packard went on to form the Packard Clipper division to make all Clipper styled cars.  The ornament was designed by Marshall M.  Fredericks, Birmingham, Michigan, assignor to Studebaker-Packard Corporation.  Packard merger with Studebaker in 1954.
